Privacy Policy
Last Updated: June 19, 2026. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us when setting up your profile or contributing to FindAlternate:
- Authentication & Profile Information: We store your name, email address, profile avatar, and system-generated identifiers provided by social login providers (such as Google).
- Contribution Activity: We record alternative suggestions, category edits, user likes, saved bookmarks, and custom dashboard/sidebar placement configurations.
- Payment & Billing Data: Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We do not store, log, or receive your raw credit card information.
2. How We Protect Your Data
We take data security very seriously. All information is transmitted securely using industry-standard SSL/TLS encryption. Database queries are processed securely using relational query builders to prevent injection vulnerability vectors. Session states are stored locally on your device within encrypted cookies and standard session storage blocks.
3. Use of Information
We use your personal data to:
- Manage and authenticate your account sessions.
- Attribute product suggestions, points, reports, and likes to your profile.
- Compile product comparison metrics and show tailored alternate lists.
- Process payments and scheduled reservation dates for your sponsored items.
- Prevent abuse, duplicate entries, rate manipulation, and coordinate spam rings.
4. Third-Party Integrations
FindAlternate collaborates with select third-party services to enrich your directory experience:
- Stripe: Payment collection and subscription slot billing.
- NextAuth.js: Secure authentication layer.
- Vercel Analytics: Privacy-friendly usage tracking (no personal identifiers are mapped).
- Google Favicons API: Real-time lookup of product domain logos.
5. Cookies and Local Storage
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in. We also use sessionStorage to save temporary states such as product search queries, load pages, and scroll location. These storage logs are stored purely inside your browser cache and do not track you outside of FindAlternate.
6. Data Deletion and Policy Updates
You have the right to delete your profile details, submitted items, or account at any time. To request complete account erasure, you can reach out directly to our privacy desk.
We reserve the right to revise this Privacy Policy to align with new compliance laws or platform modifications. We will post notification updates directly on this page when revisions occur.
